We have good jobs for good people making great food. Pret is a private company determined never to forget that our wonderful hardworking people make all the difference. They are our heart and soul. When they care, our business is sound. If they stop caring, our business goes down the drain.
We pay our hardworking, wonderful staff as much as we can afford rather than as little as we can get away with. We invest in, train and develop our people (75% of our managers were promoted from Team Leaders). Our starting salary is £7 an hour (after 10 days, including bonus). Many get over £8 an hour and more. The average salary (including bonuses) for General Managers is £35,000 pa and Assistant Managers is £26,000 pa. We wear jeans, we have legendary parties.
Pret is made up of small groups of ten shops (we call this a 'Pret Estate') led by imaginative (and passionate) leaders (Ops). All our shops have trainers within their core staff. We run many coures at our busy Training Academy in Victoria (most of which have nothing to do with sandwich making).
We run many courses at our busy Pret Academy in Victoria (most of which have nothing to do with sandwich making). Our training programmes seem to work. We will continue to invest heavily in our employees' development. We don't sit on our backsides talking about staff 'training and development'. We actually get on and do it.
We have a strong tradition of developing our people: Collins Obamwanyi, a General Manager in one of our largest shops, began working with us as a Team Member in our very first shop over 15 years ago; Operations Manager Jo Selin, joined us as a Team Member in 1995. Currently, 75% of our Managers began their Pret careers as Team Members.

We employ many different nationalities, and value the cosmopolitan feel this gives the company.
Twice a year, we throw a massive party. Some have passed into Pret legend. Everyone at Pret is invited.
Pret is growing (slowly - one shop at a time, no rush) so if you’re reasonably hard working, enjoy delicious food and have a good sense of humour, you’ll probably fit in. We are always on the lookout for good people. Explore the Working as a Team Member, Working as a Manager or Working in our Office links to find out more and see what vacancies we have.
Pret Behaviours
Over the years, our staff and managers have documented what they believe makes a really successful 'Pret Person'.
We call it "Don't Want To See" and "Pret Perfect!". Actually, it's pretty obvious stuff but it helps to write it down and remember it! It applies to everybody, from our CEO, Clive Schlee, to the Team Member on his or her first day.
