A day in the life of

Your day is hard work but fun. You’ll start early (6.00am is common) and put on a fresh, clean shirt and cap (that we provide, of course) with your own jeans. You’ll be making the best sandwiches (using amazing, natural ingredients) with the rest of your team. After your team meeting (every morning, without fail) you’ll get back to work in the kitchen. Then you’ll sit down to your paid break, and your free lunch. The afternoon is normally spent serving our customers (with a cheery smile, what else?). And when you’ve cleaned everything up, it’s time to go home, ahead of the rush hour.

Show me the money

We pay our hardworking, wonderful staff as much as we can afford rather than as little as we can get away with. We invest in, train and develop our people (75% of our managers were promoted from Team Leaders). Our starting salary is £7 an hour (after 10 days, including bonus). Many get over £8 an hour and more. The bonus is weekly and linked to how well your shop fares with the weekly independent Mystery Shopper. On average, over 80% of Team Members receive their Mystery Shopper bonus each week. Other benefits enjoyed by everyone in the company include 28 days' holiday per year (inclusive of Bank Holidays), accrued from day one (and rising to 33 days after five years' service); sick pay; maternity, paternity and adoption policies which offer more than the national recommendation; and a full-on social life (if that's your thing). Fewer than 1% of our people work nights.

Pick me, pick me

We employ, on average, only one in every seven people who contact us looking for a job. The teams in our shops are the backbone of what we do so it's incredibly important we find the right individuals to join them. As a potential new recruit, you'll go on an 'Experience Day', where you get the chance to see what working for Pret is really like. We check you out and you check us out. As many people as possible get to meet you and the whole team has a say in whether you join us.
