We don’t believe in long-winded 'eco' policies that simply don’t ring true. This is our Sustainability Statement; it explains what we actually do at Pret rather than just what we'd like to.

We looked at each part of Pret that affects the environment and drew up a list of our priorities and, more importantly, what we’re doing about them:

1. Packaging – Do you find it annoying when you're given great wads of napkins and bags you don't need when buying our food? Many customers want a bag and a handful of napkins, but if you don't, then tell us. We won't mind. Read more…below.
2. Recycling – Our head office recycling scheme is very successful, and now the vast majority of Pret shops across the country have customer and back of house recycling facilities. But did you know that no single local authority is able to offer a simple recycling solution to a company like us? Read more…below.
3. Food waste – Tragically, despite running our very own fleet of electric vans (the Pret Charity Run), a few of our shops have no regular charities willing to collect our fresh, natural food at the end of the day. 4. Energy – Pret electricity comes from 100% 'green' sources; a mixture of wind, wave and hydro-electricity. It costs a little more but makes total sense (even the accountants said yes). Read more…below
5. Pret food – We believe air freighting fruit and veg is completely over the top. It's unnecessary and, with the exception of basil leaves (and in the case of an emergency), we don't do it. Read more…below.
6. Doing more – Off-setting carbon emissions appears to be ‘the thing to do’ at the moment. Celebrities are planting forests all over the world, but is this really the solution? Read more…below. 

Sustainability is an evolving process; we update this section with the latest developments at Pret regularly. We want to reduce our impact on the environment.
